As wildfires have become more intense and frequent, living through days of thick, dark smoke has become a common experience in the western United States. Light and objects can appear red, orange or pink when the sun filters through the smoke, creating an unsettling, but at times beautiful atmosphere. This series of paintings aims to capture the complicated feelings of witnessing the transformation of our landscapes through the lens of everyday life—the spaces we inhabit as we go about our days in a changing world.
